WORK

Through my large-scale abstract paintings, which are done in both acrylic and oil, I explore personal narratives in relation to societal structures of gender and sexuality. Queerness is essential to my work—each lived experience expressed through abstracted forms is shaped by a queer existence and is examined through a lesbian feminist lens. Through the visual language of overlapping forms and the illusion of transparency, I grapple with the intangible nature of gender by looking beyond the rigidity of the binary and deconstructing the hierarchical framework through which sex and gender are typically viewed.My other work expresses similar ideas through much more explicit language. My prints and collages often include text in the form of short slogans or excerpts from poetry I have written and never published. As with my paintings, queerness is deeply entrenched in this work, and the more objective nature of the prints and collages I create allows for direct confrontation with both personal and political facets of queerness and gender.

About

I was born in 2003 and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I began my degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2021 and am expected to graduate in December of 2026. Upon graduation I will be relocating to Washington, D.C. in search of art handling and installation opportunities to complement my studio practice.

My interests outside of my work include queer and feminist film, theory, literature, and poetry; American football and the relationship between masculinity, violence, and intimacy; karaoke; over-analysis of bad network television shows; knitting rectangles; museums and galleries; coffee; brainstorming hypothetical academic studies; collecting physical media; and putting my cat in costumes he abhores.
